CLUB NEWS
Club Update April 2010 Clubhouse interior - members who have been around over the winter will have noticed that the building structure has suffered considerable damage from burst pipes in the roof cavity brought about by the severe cold weather. It has resulted in the building structure becoming severely water saturated and unfortunately repair is not possible until this has dried out. Meanwhile the collapsed ceiling in changing room 2 and all the electrical repair work has been completed and fortunately the Club insurance has covered most of this cost, which has been quite considerable. A painter is standing by to deal with the rest of the remedial work which he will commence as soon as the heating and ventilation has done its work.
Those of you who are especially vigilant will have also noticed that the hallway carpet has been cleaned and the hallway itself given a paint makeover.
Clubhouse exterior - the exterior railings and concrete facings have also been painted at considerable expense. This has helped maintain the integrity of the external structure and further maintenance is planned on the soffits and wooden surrounds.
We also have other good ideas on how to spend money, but we need to see that we are making sufficient revenues to make this possible, so functions are a very important part of our fund raising activity. Cronkbourne is a very attractive venue for a function so consider using it yourselves or encourage friends and workmates to do so.
Other developments - We now have our own Broadband/WIFI Hotspot. Local IT company
have agreed to sponsor a link for the foreseeable feature. So feel free to bring your Laptops/notebooks/Blackberrys done if you want to link up to the Internet from the Clubhouse.
Website - We shall hopefully be improving the quality of the web site by introducing an Interactive Clubhouse calendar & similar facilities. Again this is made possible by a member offering his services to the Club, hence if there are any other members out there who feel inclined to do likewise, in any sphere of Club activity whatsoever, myself or any Committee Member would be delighted to hear from you.
Clubhouse Break In -News 17.11.09 - Word on the galley telegraph is that the police have collared the two low lifes whom they suspect trashed our Clubhouse. Further details are awaited but it is hoped an announcement will be made in good time for those who wish to officiate at resultant floggings/birchings/hangings or other, but equally satisfying, public executions.
Seriously though the Club would like to express its thanks to the police officers & scene of crime staff for the diligent and professional way in which they dealt with this matter. It is great to see that their efforts have apparently borne some fruit.
CSSC AGM 9 Nov 09 As usual attendance was extremely poor which was disappointing given the efforts that the various Committees put into the operation of the Club over the course of the year. Particularly conspicuous by their absence were the vast majority of playing members from all three sports which considering the Club's whole "raison d'etre" is doubly disappointing. Membership indifference is a serious malaise which if not addressed will inevitably affect the future of the entire Club.
Meeting papers will be posted shortly.
Clubhouse Break In As you may be aware the Clubhouse was broken into recently and considerable damage caused including the safe which was completely torn from the wall and removed. The police have managed to collect a good amount of evidence and are confident the perpetrators will be identified and apprehended.
As a consequence the Club have been obliged to step up security arrangements at some significant cost. It is unfortunate this is necessary, particularly for a charitable body, but it is regrettably a reflection of current society.
It would also serve to complement these measures if all members who live near the Clubhouse or happen to be passing could keep an eye open for any signs of unwanted attention which the premises are attracting. The police have undertaken to do likewise and would be pleased to hear from anyone who notices anything that arouses their suspicions.
