SEASON GETS OFF TO A WET START

The first 2 matches of the 2008 season have been lost to weather. Saturday 27th's Premier league fixture against Peel eventually fell victim to some Autumnal-like conditions as did the following Wednesday's B team clash at Ronaldsway.

This weekend sees the A team away to Ramsey, albeit without youngsters Alex Stokoe and Alasdair Slack who are taking their UKCC Level 1 cricket coaching badge at KWC along with Club member Chris Whittaker. Replacing them are hard hitting Riaan Riekiert and Bob Dix. Also making his A team debut is spin pimp Chris Hewson in respect of whom it will be interesting to see how much bounce he generates on the Ramsey rock with his gently looping droopers.

Should be a classic.

FIRST OUT DOOR ACTIVITY OF SEASON

Cronkbourne members ventured outdoors for their first net of the season on Thursday 10th April. A very good attendance was witnessed despite the sub-polar conditions. The latter seemed to prompt the donning of some interesting garb by some, of which Max (the Killer's) black tights and fetching non-coordinating shorts led the way by some distance. Even Jas' sartorial turban was looked upon with envy by some who had lost any feeling from the neck upwards. Fortunately darkness fell quickly much to the relief of participants and onlookers alike.

Saturday afternoon saw the first foray into the middle for a hardy few where the handful who did turn up for an inter club match indulged in a frenzy of heaving and fetching which at least kept the affects of the elements at bay.

Hopefully spring will soon be upon us which will facilitate a marked improvement in the quality of practice, not to mention associated attire.

CRONKBOURNE JUNIOR VISITS ECC SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE in LA MANGA SPAIN 7-12 April 2008

Cronkbourne junior player Alasdair Slack represented the Isle of Man at the above annual event run by the European Cricket Council. He was accompanied by Bradley Marshall of Castletown CC and Stuart Marshall also of Castletown CC, the latter as Island representative coach. Alasdair's nomination was based on his bowling performance in Forrester 2 cricket in 2007 where in his first full season in the side he picked up 24 wickets at an average of 13. His performance as a junior in this league was only eclipsed by team mate Alex Stokoe who also would have attended La Manga had he been available.

This is the 4th year in a row where Cronkbourne juniors have been represented at La Manga with Kane Dooley (2005), Steve Slack (2006), Max Stokoe and Luke Lacey (2007) being previous Club representatives.
