New Sightscreens have arrived The Club has taken delivery of a brand new set of sightscreens thanks to the support of the IOMCA and the ECC. We are also grateful to Haldane Fisher Ltd who helped with hauling them from the South of England and saving us the price of a small mortgage in the process. They are fairly substantial steel framed units and will hopefully stand up to the rigours of the Manx climate. They are currently propped against the Cadet's building at the Club back door & available to anyone with a working knowledge of Meccano who fancies a crack at assembling them
Fireworks Night 5.11.09 Went with a bang. Sorry. A good evening was had by all & thanks must go to the Bar Committee in organising the evening and Tim Leeming and John Harrison in particular for the hard work in preparing and repairing the bonfire pit. It now looks better than the rest of the outfield - what are the pair of you doing for the rest of the winter?
Sponsors Evening 28.10.09 The Cricket section said thank you to its sponsors by hosting a wine and nibbles evening in the Clubhouse. Twenty five people attended representing most, if not all, of the sponsors who had supported the Club through 2009. Chairman Jamie Stokoe gave a brief presentation outlining the structure and history of the Club as well as detailing how the resources provided by the sponsors were so vital and so gratefully received. Jamie also outlined the Club's ambitions for the future as regards facilities and emphasised how it could only be achieved through hard work and similar support in future. Everyone appeared to enjoy the evening and Jamie concluded by thanking everyone once more and expressing how much the Club appreciated their support now and, hopefully, in the future.
Autumn Groundwork It's that time of year again when the cricket table (wicket) needs to be prepared for winter again. This year two of our members, David Slack and Max Stokoe are attending Institute Of Groundsmen's courses being run in Glasgow and Edinburgh by Cricket Scotland. These course are designed to focus specifically on this task
Hopefully this will help ensure that the quality of work undertaken will be of a relevant standard and the resultant turf surfaces which can be prepared in the new season will improve accordingly.
The materials including top dressing have been ordered and on their arrival a small band of helpers will as ever make the task, which is relatively arduous, as manageable as possible. Obviously weather is important too, so please check the website for relevant dates when assistance will be needed.
