NEWSLETTER SPRING/SUMMER 09
Island U/19 squad for Belgium 09 The Club have six players in the Island Under 19 squad to play in the ECC Division 2 tournament on 3rd - 8th August 09. This is the biggest contribution of any Club on the Island, the closest being Crosby with three. The remaining four squad members represent four different Clubs.
Our players who have the honour of representing the Island are:
Zaim Jafri, Adam Killey, Ally Slack, Alex Stokoe, Max Stokoe and Sam Walker. It will be a tough week of fixtures which pits them against some of Europe's best. All the other countries participating are ECC Associate members, Isle of Man being the only Affiliate.
Sat 25th JULY 1st XI v Ramsey Victory at last. After several recent close calls and disappointments the 1st XI returned to winning ways against Ramsey on Saturday. Batting first Ramsey made 228 with Alex Stokoe returning a fine four for. Our lads soon set about chasing down this target, an opening stand of over 120 between Alex and Steve Slack making hay with a poor Ramsey attack. By the time Steve was out on 74 victory was a formality and Jeff Levin and Rian Riekert saw us comfortably home by 7 wickets.
If only a few close ones throughout the season had gone our way the Premiership could have had a far different look to it.

Cronkbourne just fail in Ramsey run chase Cronkourne first XI just failed to overcome a stubborn Ramsey side in last Saturday's (27th June) Standard Bank Premiership clash. Bowling first our lads did reasonably well to restrict Ramsey to 221 all out. However despite some steady batting once more from Alex Stokoe we came up just short in the run chase losing our final wicket with only 4 more runs required for victory. Close but not close enough. Pictures from the clash below.
Cronkbourne player stars in first ever cricket match in Serbia Cronkbourne and ex-Island player Ian Bancroft has played in Serbia's first ever cricket match held in the village of Karlovcic. "Barney" as he was better known in Tromode circles has been living overseas for some time but has obviously retained the enthusiasm, if not the skills, so assiduously developed over his years in the Cronkbourne Colts, and latterly senior teams. There is no record of how his technique held up to the Karlovcic wicket, although it does appear he did not quite make the MotM award. Further details of the fixture can be found at the following ECC link.

1st XI v Crosby 13th June 09 Cronkbourne are now in second place in the Premiership following their 38 run defeat of Crosby. Our lads ended on 258 for 7 with Max Stokoe cracking a superb 94. Our bowlers ensured Crosby never really looked like getting close with big Phil Richardson and his searing pace taking 3 for 27 and Alex Stokoe 3 for 36.

Max and some finely honed athletes Watto "The Claw" Dear Members ,
All our teams have made promising starts to the season, well done to you all, keep up the good work.
It is particularly pleasing to see that our first XI has recorded three successive Premiership wins putting the team into a challenging position. We are now well into the season, and require that subscriptions be fully paid by 15 June, unless you are paying by standing order.
The costs of running the cricket section increases each year, and the subscriptions are one of the main contributors to our revenue streams, which allow us to employ Jeff and to cover our other expenses.
If you have not yet paid, would you please do so by 15 June, otherwise you may not be considered for team selection; we should prefer not to reach this situation of course so it is up to you.
The grounds are looking in good shape, and my thanks go to Jeff Levin, and not forgetting David Slack who carried out a lot of work prior to Jeff's return
We have agreed to a request from Vagabonds to allow them to use our nets each Sunday in June and 19 July, between 11am and 1pm.
Your committee currently comprises Jamie Stokoe, Phil Richardson, Emmet McQuillan, Bob Dix, Jas Singh, Tom Richards and Jeff Levin.
We are always on the look out for members who can contribute to the running of the club, and this does not necessarily mean that you have to join the committee.
Currently we are looking for a member of the C team to join us, and others who may be interested in maintaining the members' database for the club or assisting in general communications via e-mails and the website. These tasks can take as long as you want, however they need take no more than an hour or two a month, so please consider getting involved with the running of your club. Come on you know you want to!
Don't forget that the clubhouse is a wonderful venue for a party or function, and members can use it at a 50% discount, so if you are interested contact Nick Hutchings, our bar manager.
We are trying to use our website much more than in the past as a way of communicating with the members, please mark it as one of your favourites www.cronkbourne.org.im

Terrific Premiership result for First XI
Cronkbourne recorded a magnificent victory over St John's on Saturday (30th May). Jeff Levin weighed in with a not out 69 (his favourite score) and Alex Stokoe hit 65 from a Cronkbourne total of 204 for 4 at Mullen-e-Cloie. St John’s made a determined effort to win, but were simply just not good enough to thwart a determined Cronkbourne display with Nic Keiswetter and Alex Stokoe bagging three wickets apiece. It was a solid all round team performance with all catches being clung on to, albeit with the occasional bit of juggling theatrics from Ally "Krusty" Slack.
Cronkbourne 204 for 4 (Jeff Levin 69no, Alex Stokoe 65 ); St John’s 181 (Alex Stokoe 3 -22, Nic Keiswetter 3 -39). Cronkbourne won by 23 runs.

Bob Dix gets first ton of season
Congratulations to our B team skipper Bob who notched the first Club century of the season in the Championship match versus Castletown on Sunday 24th May.

Club Improvements
As you will all know, the new artificial strip is being replaced during the period 11 - 19 May, so when we are unable to play on grass, at least we will have a lovely new playing surface.
We are obtaining covers as well, and I understand that these are being ordered today by Gareth Dawson on behalf of interested clubs.
We should also be getting sightscreens in the not too distant future.
All these new additions have been made possible by generous grants being made available to us by the IOM Cricket Association, such that Cronkbourne's contribution to the overall costs are manageable.
My sincere thanks go to the IOMCA for this help.
Regards
Jamie Stokoe
PS
The Manx Youth Games take place at Cronkbourne on Saturday from 11am to 3.30pm, after which the under 15 team play Ramsey.
The Club will be a busy place, so we will be offering food, refreshment and bar facilities, so if you can help out at all, even for an hour, it would be much appreciated.
Cronkbourne Cricket Club Meeting
This coming Thursday 30th April sees the match between our B and C teams at the Club. Also, there will be training for the rest. I would like to encourage the First squad and all others to come down to practice.
After the match, which ends at around 2100, I would like the opportunity to have a ten minute chat to everyone about the season.
Please try to spare the time.
Jeff Levin
