SKIPPER'S MESSAGE

Hi all,

Just a quick update with how the 2011 season is going so far.

In terms of the men's 1st xI there have been mixed performances, very similar to last year. In the Standard Bank Premiership we had an excellent win over St Johns at home with our bowlers taking the limelight in that game. This was then followed be a poor performance against Castletown last week where we allowed them to score 350. We are currently only 3rd in the league though with 6 games left, and I believe 6 wins will win us the league. Big finish needed starting on Saturday v Valkyers. The 1st xI are also through to 2020 finals day, which will be staged at Tromode on the 23rd July. We are in the 1st semi starting at 1030. All support will be very much appreciated.

The second XI are going ok in both the Championship and the 2020 competition. Lying midtable in both, hopefully Chris Hewson can lead his side into a string of wins.

The juniors are all going well. The U15s are currently second but are well in the fight to win the league, as are the u13s.
The u11s are cruising at the minute and have thrashed every team they have come up against. And finally the u9's finals are this evening and if the A team win they will claim the title for the second year in a row.

Finally the ground is looking in good order and ready to host plenty more games in the next few months. Our wickets have been playing really well, and hope that continues for the next month or so. I must add a lot of prasie to David Slack who is continually looking at ways to improve the ground.

So things for your diary coming up....

23rd July - 2020 finals day!

27th July - start of EUROPEAN U19 CHAMPS, where 6 matches will be staged at Tromde.

St.Johns Thrashed by Cronkbourne

Cronkbourne U11 vs St John’s Friday 8th July @ St John’s

St. John’s won the toss and they decided to have a bat first. The opening bowlers for Cronkbourne were Nathan Pope and Spencer Cope. They bowled very well and managed to take six wickets between them. Next it was Stuart Rushmere and George Harrisons turn to bowl. This pair were just as good as the first two taking four wickets. The next three bowlers were Max Walker, Oran …….. and Sam McCord. They all picked up a wicket and in the end every one that bowled took at least one wicket. The only person that didn’t bowl was Robert Webster who was our wicket keeper. St. Johns started on 100 and they finished on 84.

Now it was Cronkbourne’s turn to bat and the opening batsmen were Robert Webster and Sam Mccord. These two were playing their first game for Cronkbourne and they did well. The second pair to the crease was George Harrison and Nathan Pope. They were fantastic with the bat both hitting a six and a lot of boundaries. They made an amazing partnership of 70 runs. Next were Spencer Cope and Stuart Rushmere. They both managed a couple of boundaries and near the end Stuart ran five because of overthrows. The last pair to come to the crease was Max Walker and Oran ……... they faced some good bowling but still managed to get a couple of boundaries. Cronkbourne started on 100 and finished on 236. The top three run scorers were Stuart Rushmere with 15, Nathan Pope with 28 and George Harrison with 33. Now Cronkbourne had won 3 in a row.

Cronkbourne Thrash Vagabonds by a Stunning Total of 101 Runs

Cronkbourne U11 vs Vagabonds U11     Friday 20th May

Cronkbourne won the toss and elected to bat first. The opening batsmen were Bevan Rodd and George Harrison who started the Cronkbourne innings with a load of runs and the pair managed 5 boundaries between them with George getting 3 and Bevan managing 2. They put together a great opening partnership of over 40 runs. The next pair in were Stuart Rushmere and Sam Ashworth. They kept the score moving and their partnership chipped in with more boundaries. Then came Spencer Cope and Andrew ………. . They started steady but got a lot better and managed a few runs each. The last pair to come to the crease was Henry Holligon and Max Walker. They kept the runs going on well with Max hitting a couple of fours. Cronkbourne ended their innings on a remarkable total of 299 and they lost just three wickets. The three top scorers were George who made 20, Bevan who made 14 and Max who made 12 and it was his first game for Cronkbourne.

Then it was Cronkbourne's turn to bowl and all they had to do was defend their massive total by bowling well. The opening bowlers were Spencer Cope and Bevan Rodd, Spencer took 2 wickets for the loss of just 4 runs and Bevan took 1 wicket for 7 runs.  The next bowlers were Stuart Rushmere and George Harrison they did just as well as the first bowlers as they took  a couple of wickets as well. The next pair of bowlers were Sam Ashworth and Henry Holligon, they took about 2 wickets as well and they conceded about 5 runs. The final two bowlers were Andrew ……… and Max walker. They didn’t concede too many runs either and Max took 1 wicket. Vagabonds ended up on 198 and lost ten wickets so that meant that Cronkbourne won by 101 runs. Now Cronkbourne had now won 2 in a row. YEAH!!!

2011 SEASON UPDATE

Our second 2020 unfortunately saw our first defeat of the season. Batting first we made a cracking start with Dan(39) and Max(42) playing aggressively from ball one. However, we then collapsed in the middle with Chris Hawke claiming 4 wickets. So in reply St Johns only needed to chase down 116. Despite Alex Stokoe claiming 2 early wickets and a hat trick from Chris Langford, Pete Lewis(35) and Phil Littlejohns (45) knocked off the total with relative ease.

We had to pick ourselves up from our first defeat of the season, as we travelled to Penwortham for out 1st round in the Lancashire Cup. Unfortunately the weather was shocking and the game ended up being a 2020 affair. We restricted Penwortham to 110, with an excellent fielding and bowling display. There was only 1 wide bowled and everyone returned excellent figures.  Ansell and Dawson were the pick of the bowlers.
In reply we made a solid start moving to 25 for 0, however openers Dan Hawke and Max Stokoe then gave their wickets away to poor shots. Alex then went for a duck, and we were looking to be on the ropes. However Will Wood and Dawson then came together to steady the middle order. Will unfortunately had to retire hurt, but hit some big blows to shift the momentum back our way. Dawson departed for 37, but sound batting from Waggy, Dave Smith and then Chris ensured we knocked off the last few runs to progress to the 2nd round. Our next Lancashire Cup game will be played on the 5th June with the team to be confirmed next week. Hopefully we can progress further...........

Our next 2020 game against Valkyres was rained off.

Our winning ways however continued at the weekend with a win over leaders Ramsey. We bowled them out for 139, with Alex claiming five wickets. In reply Dan Hawke 35 and Dawson 53 held the middle order together after a poor start, to ensure we go unbeaten into our 4th game at the weekend v St Johns.

Junior Cricket Update

The u9s a side have won their opening game. U11s are unbeaten 2 from 2, 13s unfortunately lost v Castletown but can make up for that this week, and the u15s start their season this Wednesday at home to the Rams.

The Tromode Chronicle has now been issued - click here if you  have not yet received your copy.

THREE FROM THREE

We have made a strong start in all 3 competitions this year. In our first game v Valkyers at home we didn't play as well as we would have liked however still got the win. We managed to get 162 all out with only two of us getting into double figures. Max got 26, however the stand out innings came from Alex with a patient 72 not out. Alex also chipped in with 3 wickets, however it was new all rounder Gareth Dawson who claimed 5 for 21 in a brilliant spell of straight and controlled bowling. There were also wickets for Matt, Chris and Max. We won by 15 runs.

We then played Union Mills in the Knockout Challenge Cup on the Sunday and produced a much more dominant performance. We bowled them out for 85, with Gareth and Matty both claiming 4 wickets each. Young Andrew Vels also picked up 2 towards the back end of their innings. In reply despite the loss of Burnsy and Adam it was left to Alex and Waggy to guide us to victory for the loss of no more wickets. Alex got 48 not out and Waggy 20 not out.

Our opening game in the T20 competition got of to a shocking start with Max, Dan Hawke, and Gareth all getting quacks. Ross Berry however did put in an excellent spell of bowling for Crosby at the start of our innings. We did however manage to get ourselves a competitive score of 106, with Alex hitting an excellent 58 and Ally and Chris getting into double figures! However, we came out strongly when it was our turn to bowl which helped produce a comfortable win in the end. The wickets were shared around the team, and also due to the light fading very quickly Crosby never got close to our total and were bowled out for a poor 68.

Unfortunately due to bad weather on Saturday our second Premiership game v Crosby was abandoned. However, we have a T20 game v Peel tomorrow to look forward to then a trip to Lancashire at the weekend where we will be looking to move into the second round of Lancs Cup. 2nd XI games start this week as well as the junior fixtures.

Another update in a few weeks with hopefully more wins to report....
