NEWSLETTER WINTER 09
GROUNDWORK
As you know the maintenance of our square at Tromode depends upon the work of a few dedicated volunteers.
With the new season approaching, we are looking to lighten the load a little by doing a rota on rolling the square. All we are asking for is for you to give up an hour or so of your time every other week to do a bit of rolling, which will improve the wicket for our cricket this year!!
Could you please reply by Tuesday via email to Jamie Stokoe or Phil Richardson if you would be able to help.
Many thanks to all who attended our recent clear out - as you can see below we managed to dispose of several generations worth of accumulated junk.
CLEAN UP FEBRUARY 2009
2009 SEASON NEWSBITES
The Club has decided that there will be a change in selection policy for this coming season throughout the club. Players will be expected to attend club net practices on a regular basis, and this will be taken into account in the selection process. We strongly believe that this will strengthen not only performance and fitness but also the team ethic, and will be a major factor in improving team attitudes and Club morale.
Net practices have started already and are continuing at the NSC Secondary Sports Hall on Thursday evenings between 7pm to 8pm until Easter. After Easter they will carry on as usual at the Club nets every Thursday evening throughout the season. Winter junior coaching is ongoing on Friday nights at Ballakermeen Sports Hall (see below).
The Club captains for this season, as selected at the players’ meeting are,
A team (weekends and midweek) Phil Richardson
B team (weekends and midweek) Bob Dix
C team (midweek) Mike Travers.
The captains will meet each week along with the Club coach to discuss performance and training sessions before choosing teams for the following matches.
The management committee has also set the membership subscriptions for the season, as follows:
£125 for senior players which will include a new club shirt.
£50 for students/under 18 players, which will mean that parents will automatically become Club social members. If junior players parents are already club members then the subscription shall be £30.
£25 for a normal social membership
A standing order form is attached for those who wish to pay for their senior playing membership this way. Otherwise the Management Committee require that all subs are paid by the end of April. Players who have not made arrangements under either method by this date may render themselves ineligible for selection.
Please could everyone also complete the appropriate forms (links in yellow above) and hand back to a committee member as soon as possible.
Many thanks.
ECC 2009 Events - CRONKBOURNE JUNIORS SELECTED
Alex Stokoe has been selected by the ECC to attend the European Centre of Excellence at La Manga in Spain during April. Alex is amongst a squad of 26 selected for their high standards and potential. Accompanying him will be Daniel Hawke of St Johns'. They will join top juniors from Ireland, Scotland, Jersey, Belgium, Denmark and Italy. The rigorous training sessions will last a week and are to be managed by Development Officer John Stock, Philip Hudson and Richard O’Sullivan, the Centre of Excellence Director. Alex follows in the footsteps of his brother and several other Cronkbourne juniors who have had the honour of representing the Club at this camp in previous years.
Meanwhile the other half of the Stokoe dynamic duo, Max who was last year’s IOMCA Under 21 Player of the Year, has been selected to join the elite ECC Emerging Players Programme. This is also to be held at La Manga in Spain during March and is restricted to only twelve players from all Europe. This is an extremely prestigious event to have been invited to and reflects the recognition of Max's potential by the European coaching elite. The best Academy Managers and Coaches will run a gruelling one week programme which not only includes lengthy batting, bowling and fielding sessions, but also other relevant subjects such as fitness, gym work, swimming, and yoga.
Hopefully the Club can look forward to a glut of runs and wickets from the pair of them this season. If not father James will no doubt be seeking a refund on his investment.
Trials are also being held for the Under 15 squad to compete in the European Division Two championships in Italy. Twenty six players turned out at the NSC under the watchful eye of CDO Gareth Dawson. The names of those chosen are expected to be announced soon, but the galley telegraph says that several Cronkbourne youngsters are firmly in the frame, not least of whom is young Adam MacAuley who, at 13, could by some distance be the baby of the squad.
Further news to follow.
