28th JUNE 08 - FIRST XI FIGHTBACK CONTINUES
Cronkbourne beat league leaders Castletown at KWC by 62 runs.
Cronkbourne lost the toss and were asked to bat first. Opener Steve Clague batted well on a damp college wicket and ended on 31. Clague and Jasneet Singh had put on a stand of 30 after early wickets had fallen. Jas ended up getting a well played 34 which included a couple of excellent cover drives for 4. Everyone else chipped in and the team ended with a very respectable 124 on a very difficult batting pitch.
Castletown in reply were soon in trouble when they lost opener Andy Cross in the first over when he was bowled by Neil Holmes. Castletown were finding the going very tough against excellent bowling from all of the Cronkbourne bowling attack.Wickets kept tumbling from the 11th over onwards when a superb one handed catch low down at slip from Steve Clague sent Castletown top scorer Mark Williams back to the pavilion for 12. Castletown ended the game 62 all out and a very good all round performance from Cronkbourne's team was complete. Max Stokoe ended with 4-20, Neil Holmes 2-17, Alex Stokoe 2-7 and Phil Richardson 1-8.
14th June 08 - FIRST XI RETURN TO FORM
The Cronkbourne Premiership side returned to form at the weekend with a well earned victory against an unpredictable Saint John's. After the latter's victory against Castletown in the previous week's Manx Knockout Challenge fixture, a tough encounter was anticipated by our lads.
Cronkbourne batted first and got 234 all out Jeff Levin 79 Steve Clague 37 Richard Foden 24. This was an impressive total and owed much to coach Levin's splendid innings.
In reply St Johns were 137 all out with the Cronkbourne bowling proving much too persistent for them. Top figures were returned by the ever dependables Neil Holmes 3-29
and Alex Stokoe 2-17. For Saint Johns only Dan Hawke showed any likelihood of taking the attack to Cronkbourne scoring an impressive 24 in the process.
CRONKBOURNE BROTHERS SELECTED FOR ISLAND TEAM TO PLAY v MCC 20TH JUNE 08
The brothers Stokoe have been selected to represent the Club in the forthcoming Island v MCC fixture. Along with Dan Hawke of Saint John's, they are probably amongst the youngest players on the Island ever to have received such an honour.
