2015 Board Summary

 

 

Another year has flown by and it is time for us to reflect on what has been achieved; it is quite remarkable how quickly the season has come and gone!

We have some excellent players in the club, however it is seldom that we have been able to pick our strongest side due to a variety reasons, notwithstanding this we have performed strongly being runners up in both the Premiership and the Tinker Cup. We have again given the stronger juniors plenty of opportunities and the experiences that they have had will no doubt be of great benefit in the future.

A significant highlight was the unbeaten partnership of 362 between Adam McAuley and Max Stokoe, a Manx record by some margin, with both scoring massive centuries. More of the same next year please chaps.

Our two midweek teams comprised primarily of our older juniors and hockey players, with both acquitting themselves well, particularly in the Forrester 2 League which saw the Bacchas boys finishing second.

A highlight was the century scored by Karl Moore soon after his return to the Island.

In line with recent years, the club continues to be the main provider of players for the Isle of Man National teams at all levels. This is a real testament to our junior set up, which had another strong season across the agegroups, winning all the leagues.

I should like to congratulate Dollin Jansen and Harry McAleer who went for trials with the under 11 age group level at Lancashire CCC. There were initially about one hundred children looking to get into the squad of fourteen, with the selection process taking place over a number of weekends, where the numbers were reduced each time. At the end of all this, Harry successfully made the squad whilst Dollin missed out in the final round unfortunately. However Dollin is actually only nine so will have another chance next year. Well done boys we are proud of you.

Well done to all our youngsters and particular thanks must go to the coaches and volunteers that have given up their time to assist at all the training sessions.

The senior player of the year is Max Stokoe.

The junior player of the year is Sam Callister.

This year we ran internships for four boys who were able to learn more about the groundkeeping and coaching side of things, whilst helping the club with running junior teams and with the preparation of the ground on match days.

Thanks go to Jack Gerrard, James Harrison, Sam Mills and Nick Wild.

An unsung hero of the club is David Slack who continues to spend many hours giving love and attention to the cricket square, and we should all be very  grateful of his efforts.  We are arguably the only club that has grass wickets, and despite the time, effort and expense of maintaining them, I think that we are better for having them.

The arrangement allowing Valkyres Cricket Club use of the club’s facilities ran through for a fourth year and it continues to work well for both of us.

Baker Tilly have agreed to another two year term as our headline sponsor which is absolutely brilliant and we are indebted to them. We also have a large number of long standing sponsor partners who have backed the club for some time and you will see their advertising boards dotted around the field. We are hugely appreciative to all of them for this help, thank you.

Earlier this year the section ran a Racenight to raise funds for the wider club, and it turned out to be a resounding success with over £1,800 being raised.

Our discussions with Government in respect of a new lease over the field rumble on, and I remain hopeful that I shall be able to announce a positive outcome in the not too distant future.

Finally I should like to thank the committee for its efforts in administering and managing the cricket section on your behalf.

As I mentioned last year, we are always looking for new blood and new ideas, so if you fancy getting a little more involved then please let me know. It is worth emphasising that this need not be time consuming as you can give only as much of your time that suits you!
