2015 Chairman’s Report

 

 

 

Welcome to all of you that have taken the time to attend this year’s AGM, thank you.

 

Well another year has flown by and we are here again to advise you formally on what has happened during the last year.

 

You will already have seen the sport section’s reports which show mixed fortunes for the last year’ however one thing is for sure, you have all enjoyed the various sporting competitions and have a clubhouse of which you can be really proud.

 

One of the important functions of the AGM is to discuss the financial position of the company, therefore the financial statements have been circulated prior to the meeting so that you will have had a chance to look at them. I think that it is worth mentioning again that each of the three sport sections run their own bank account, so monies raised by them will be spent as the respective committee considers best. These numbers are set out on the last page of the accounts and show that the overall income has just covered expenditure.

 

The general running of the club itself, particularly the bar facility, is reflected in the Income and Expenditure Account on page 4. You will see that during the year we spent £7,522 more than we generated in income, and whilst this is not desirable, I should like to advise you of the primary reasons for this.

 

Firstly we spent around £4,500 mainly in replacing the soffits and facias around the whole building, whilst also decorating and carpeting the hall and corridor, courtesy of Messrs Hewson and Slack (snr). We must maintain the fabric of the building.

 

The second and more worrying point is that bar sales slumped from £43,062 in 2014 to £31,318 this year. Based on normal nett profit margins, this is a drop in income something in the order of £4,000.

 

The answer is simple, you need to support the club more otherwise the sections may need to contribute towards the upkeep of the building, which in turn may mean increased subscriptions. It’s up to you to make the place somewhere lively and where you want to meet up, so make suggestions or better still arrange things yourselves.

 

Negotiations with Government over a new and extended lease continue at a snail like pace, but I am hopeful of a positive outcome in the coming weeks.

 

 

After seven years running the bar, Nick Hutchings left to take up a full time position at Peel Golf Club and our best wishes went with him.

 

We have been very fortunate to have found a very capable replacement in Sharon Stevenson who has impressed since she took over in April. Sharon will handle all matters relative to the bar and cleaning, and should you want to book the clubhouse for a party, then she is the one to approach.

 

Cronkbourne is a lovely spot for a function and is available to members, so next time you need a venue, please consider the club.

 

Rather like an “Oscars” speech, there are a number of people whom I should like to thank (other than my parents).

 

First of all my fellow directors, Geoff, Tim and Tony, who put in much time behind the scenes which largely goes unnoticed.

 

Mike Gardner for acting as our independent examiner yet again.

 

The various members of the sports’ committees, particularly the treasurers.

 

David Slack and Les Crellin for tending the two grounds with such tender loving care.

 

The club sponsors whose financial help is invaluable in the running of the club.

 

Sharon and her team for the enthusiasm and efficiency in looking after us.
