2014 /15 Board Summary

 

 

Once again we did well by fielding the most playing sides of all the clubs on the Island affording opportunities in 5 mixed sides, 4 Mens sides, 3 ladies sides, U16 Mixed and 6 junior teams in U13 / U11. In total we continue have nearly 200 members split evenly between seniors, students, and juniors with a handful of social members.

The season before Xmas could hardly have been more successful and overall it was a great haul for the season

Mens A – Winners Premier League , the Cup and Indoor

Ladies B – won Div 1

Mixed A– Won Premier League & Cup and Indoor Winners

Mixed B – Div 1 winners

Mixed C , Colts and D team all came runners up in their leagues   

Individually we did well at the MHA Dinner too with :-

MHA Young Male Player – Tom Evans again

Mens Top scorer – Tom Wilson

Senior Male Player of the year – Andy Vernon-Browne

Top Goal scorers in Mixed –  Jonny Callow (Prem) and Phoenix (Div 1)

In the junior section:-

Under 11 girls came 6 /8

Under 11 boys came 9/11

Under 13 girls came 3/6

Under 13 boys came 2/7

Although these don't make great reading compared to recent years but the majority of last season's under 11s had moved up to under 13s.  With the boys, our under 13 team was made up of boys still eligible to play in under 11s with just one 'proper' under 13. the boys and the girls teams have shown the fantastic potential we have in our junior section.  With them being so young, and all of a similar young age, if we can keep them all playing together as teams, they will go on to be the next successful players. Must mention the introduction of Hock-a-tots this has taken off this year and special thanks to Carly, Sam and Rich for bringing those guys on last year.

I would like to thank Anne Harrison for all her efforts over the last number of years in coordinating the juniors and wish Phoenix well in taking this over – please support him where you can.

I continue to emphasise that the success of the top is a direct reflection of the success and quality of the lower teams so the energy and enthusiasm of the lower teams is vital to the club. I see the potential each week I am down so let’s keep this conveyor belt of quality juniors going by continuing to support the coaches and help out where you can.

On the coaching front we saw Tom and Phoenix progress past their level 2 which is great and as the courses start up again we should be pushing for others to get qualified at level 1 and 2. We now have 2 level 3 , 6 level 2 and 11 level  1 coaches but need to continue to push people through the courses

This was the first year of the new kit and the new process of including the kit in the subs so as you will see from the accounts when we go through them, the shortfall this year is a clear reflection of this cashflow situation and we should be back in the black next year and the year after. Special thanks to Clodagh pulling these together. Very importantly in absence of a key sponsor it is important that all of us the recognise this and not only pay fees / subs etc on time but also keep an ear out for any potential new players and sponsors that could help over the next few years. Once again if anyone knows of anyone who maybe interested in sponsoring us please reach out to one of the committee –we continue to search and ask.

On the umpiring we clearly are responsible for providing enough to cover the games played. Given that we have the most teams, we played the most games and therefore had to cover the most games – we umpired 159 games and Bacchas played 158 games  which is more than any club which is a real positive contribution.  Again a special mention must go to John Harrison who covered 37 of those himself!!   A big thanks also to Jamie Brown , Gary Corkill, Tim Leeming and James Harrison for covering 20 or so each and covered 80% between them.  Thanks also to us other folks who assisted in umpiring but we do need more and we need people to help out so please consider this next season. Even umpiring 10-15 games a season will make a massive difference to the club. We can’t play without umpires!!

Socially – I feel we relasped last year and I would urge us to get back to doing food and coming down to the club on Saturdays for a few hours .We had another excellent Founders Day in June with a reasonable turnout to games and a good number down at the club afterwards. We will be organising more food this year so please try to support on Saturdays.

Congratulations to all of them and let’s aim to get at least the same or more involved next year!
Before I finish I would like to thank all those on the Hockey committee who take their time out to administer the club, to all the senior coaches Jon, Rich , Phoenix , Tom and Veebs  and regular helpers, all the Junior Coaches / Leaders  Niamh, Sam , Lou and Carly and all the numerous helpers without which the sessions could not take place and who all contribute the junior section so strong.

We should all continue to feel rightly proud of our achievements as a club but we should continue to see how we can all  improve on and off the pitch regards , playing , admin , attitude , participation , and socials to make the overall club stronger and more coherent next year.
